FAQs

  • The length of therapy is really up to you. Life is complex, and I understand that we can't always invest as much time or money as we'd like into our mental health. We’ll need to weigh everything out—whether you need long-term therapy for lasting balance and peace or short-term therapy for quick relief and resilience in a particular situation. It’s not a one-size-fits-all answer, and we’ll figure it out together.

Often, it’s worth it to spend the time and money now for lasting change towards more resilience, happiness, and serenity, to leave behind dysfunctional relationships, anxieties, and feelings of unworthiness. I could go on and on. It is your life, and let me tell you, we all struggle at some point. We carry around imprints from our past into today because that's what psychology and attachment theory tell us: we adapt to survive. Therapy is a chance to leave this behind and take a good look at ourselves with a professional who provides a non-judgmental and empathetic space for it.

I’ll assess your reasons for coming to therapy and help determine the best approach. Short-term therapy is often more goal-oriented, focusing on specific challenges and stressors, while long-term therapy goes deeper, helping to change patterns and increase self-awareness. Let’s have a chat to see what works best for you.

  • Psychotherapy is a regular, ongoing process where we meet consistently to work together. It involves steady, dedicated effort.

We build our therapeutic relationship over time with weekly sessions. This consistency is key for building trust, or diving into deeper issues, and making meaningful progress.

To make sure you get the most out of your therapy, I’ll pre-book your appointments for a set time slot based on the service we agree on. This way, you’ll always know when your sessions are and can plan around them.

This regular schedule is essential for therapy because it helps us stay on track and make real progress. It’s a mutual commitment—you can count on me to provide steady support, and I count on you to stay engaged in the process.

  • Yes, at this time, I offer online therapy only. I am happy to work with anyone who is a resident of Ireland.

Online sessions provide flexibility for those who may travel for work and or live outside of Galway.

Sessions will be offered by video. I use a HIPAA compliant, encrypted platform to meet with clients over video call.

  • Yes! Research has consistently shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. From March 2020 (Covid-19) therapists operated solely online and witnessed clients make significant progress without ever stepping foot in a therapy office.

Online therapy offers numerous benefits, including making mental health services accessible to people in remote or underserved areas and providing the convenience of attending sessions from home. This comfort can make it easier for clients to open up, while flexible scheduling options help fit therapy into busy lifestyles, such as lunch breaks. Online therapy also reduces the stigma associated with seeking help by providing relative anonymity. It ensures continuity of care for clients who relocate and maintains safety during situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. Clients may find online therapy more affordable due to reduced commuting and overhead costs.

I ensure that all my methods of communication are through secure platforms, maintaining confidentiality while providing quality care.

  • Absolutely! When you come to therapy, you should feel comfortable sharing anything without worrying about it leaving the room. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of being a therapist. As a member of the IACP, I adhere strictly to their code of ethics, where keeping things confidential is essential.

However, there are a few exceptions. By law, if there’s a child in danger I have to report it or if there’s a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, I might need to reach out to your next of kin, GP, or other professionals. These rules are in place to protect everyone involved. But aside from those specific situations, you can trust that what you share stays between us.

Don’t worry though, I’ll always try my best to talk it through with you first before doing anything.
